After Four Years In Development Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Has Arrived (3-27)

If you are a fan of the series it is obvious that you will enjoy this game due to the series sticking to what has made it so appealing to many of you out there. For those who didn't enjoy the series you will not find anything new or revolutionary.

There has been much acclaim on the feature involving NPC interaction.
(Non-Playable Character) When the NPC's are associated with boring dialogue, and accompany the player to boring and uneventful risk and reward, it creates an average game in itself. These that lead a successful RPG are absent in Oblivion. Think of Oblivion as an open-ended quest without any substance. It is hard to fathom that fact, although it stands to be true for this game.

In closing, I am posting links to two reviews for the game.

Talk About The XBOX 360 And The Playstation 3 Without The Console Wars! (3-16)

With the release of the Playstation 3 by November, I would like to direct our attention to a new technology called Blu-Ray. Think of Blu-Ray as a mass storage device to help aid the HD content toward somewhat shaper visuals. Blu-Ray is also a new technology that replaces the traditional red laser (for the blue one) for faster and more accurate readings for the increased media amounts. DVD's peripherals will be the common outlet for the Blu-Ray technology.

The Playstation 3 will also use the Blu-Ray to allow more data to be stored on the disc. However, the systems themselves will nearly be not to far apart to each other in the terms of graphics. The current speculation is that one system may have higher amount of effects going on at once over the other.

Here is a synopsis for the consumer, if one of these systems interest you, (or both) please keep in mind that these systems are leading the way to be more then just a video game outlet. The systems have the capability to be hooked into most of the commonly used items in the household such as the TV, DVD, and Internet. While many different features available on the systems are optional they will be worth purchasing in the complete package rather then paying more for them separately due to significantly higher cost and affected system performance. Expect to pay $500 dollars or more. You will not need a new TV to have access to these systems, the difference in graphics is still substantial without HD installed.

In conclusion, it is important to not be swayed by incoherent arguments that are used to discourage the user from one system over another. Games and systems are bought because of preference and accessibility. There is no need to blatantly say one system is better then another because no one will appreciate your argument unless it has a well developed view of both sides of the coin, though the systems themselves contain significant advantages and disadvantages over each other in a few departments. Check it out for yourself, but in all fairness I don't think it is possible to go wrong with either system.

Best to all, -John Ott

P.S. I will be posting quite a few sites that will compare the specifications, peripherals, game availability, and walkthroughs of the systems. Be sure to check Gamespot for current previews, reviews, and current news on both systems. Wikipedia is a good source for just about everything as well.

Critical Review "The History of Video Games" (3-16)

Here is a look at how far we have gone in technology.

Critical Review: “The History Of Video Games”

Technology advances ultimately with a speed that is difficult to keep up to. Technology receives praise for being helpful and is scorned for being too advanced. When it comes to this subject there isn’t a legitimate answer to whether or not we need it to survive. If technology wasn’t around would the world be a better place?

If technology was absent there would be nothing to talk about on the subject of gaming. In the 1970’s the benchmark of gaming began with a Computer Space Machine. The system was packed with one 14” black and white television that had capability to attach a keyboard to it. Anyone one that was able to buy this system did so in sheer luck because 1,500 units were only released. The general feedback toward the system was negative, because the size of the utilities used with the system were meant for more then one person to operate them simultaneously.

Video gaming was out to a rough start due to the cumbersome accessibility of the video game systems themselves. In 1985, that was not the case. The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) was released. The system boasted convince because it no longer took up the entire room to have access to it. The NES also included games that could slide into the compartment which could be closed to prevent dust and grime in the system during play. The NES also had some incredible franchises which include Super Mario Brothers, Legend of Zelda, Mega Man, and Castlevania. The franchises that were mentioned still contain impact on today’s gaming interests.

In 1995, we begin to see the future of the video gaming industry. Games are now on a Compact Disc (CD) so that mass amounts of data can be stored to meet the expectations of the new systems on the market. CD’s allow for the music spectrum to be improved dramatically due to the ability of being able to hold multiple types of media at once. The CD was a big success as it still competes with today’s market.
The Internet was an active part in human life due to the launch of Netscape’s web browser. Console makers were once again on the move to implement this technology on a video game system. In 1998, the Sega Dreamcast became the first system to benefit from this effort. Highlights of the system include Phantasy Star Online, 2K Sports, and Quake 3 Arena. Games now featured capabilities to challenge other people at the same time. This was a valuable asset to the gaming world because it was now possible to take on the world.

Now in 2006, with the release of the XBOX 360 and the Playstation 3 by the end of the year, gaming systems are not just used for gaming alone. These systems provide access to some of the items used commonly in the household such as the telephone, computer, television, and Digital Video Disc (DVD.) The idea is to implement the systems to eliminate need for the other utilities in the household.
“The History Of Video Games” can be recommended for those who have an interest in technology or video gaming. To be honest, there is not much in the availability of the subject itself. Even if it may seem that the subject is quite boring it is amazing to have witnessed how far time and technology has taken us.

Withstanding Field Observation... (3-9)

As of now, my field observation is chosen and finalized. If the date for the Communication Arts Program is within this month I would still like to go to enrich my mind. Depth would be great enough to solidify an argument for this paper.

So here is the copy below for futher analysis... Comments and concerns are welcome!

Field Observation: “A Study on Video Games and Behavior”
Using the primary source and a documentary which will be later named, I have come up with field research that will allow me to further explain what video games actually do to the brain. Most of the research I have found was going against video games due to the amount of subjective behavior that was being demonstrated while playing the game. However, I feel that the information isn’t carrying enough value to totally designate video game playing as a negative activity. America is excited when something new comes out because it is revolutionary. When that particular item turns out to be a failure the human anatomy can still be happy because it has cleansed the immediate want over a legitimate need, and received an experience that is emotionally connected to them. It is clear that people will inevitably do what they can to get what they want.

For the past two weeks I have come up with a synopsis that follows the procedure that everything is good in moderation. I have documented myself along with a group of enthusiasts playing video games. I wasn’t surprised to notice certain trends in these people that I have rarely seen before. Documentation includes wants over needs, emotional reactions, time management skills, generalizations, and personal attitudes. To help establish information I will be using the 2006 Tribute to the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) entitled “Flashback NES.” If this piece of the paper is done well, I will be able to show the reader that the views of the games of yesterday are similar to the views of today.

The life of the system and video gaming in early 1985 was about to begin with the release date of the NES fast approaching. This had allowed many to establish a want over a need for the very first time. The goal of the Nintendo Corporation depended on others to react as though they needed this product, little did they know history was about to be made on October 18, 1985. Nintendo’s launch had resounding success which leads to my analysis of people’s moods toward something new. Nintendo had compared the NES to a robot toy. Accessories shipped with the NES were called “Zapper”, and the “Power Glove”, to implement the robotic approach. Nintendo was smart; the corporation used marketing strategies to make their product likeable and valuable to their target audience.

As soon as gamers around the globe played the NES for the very first time they experienced emotional reactions. Duck Hunt for the NES became a staple because it became physically possible to shoot ducks with a gun on the screen. Gamers became emotionally disturbed when a brown dog would appear on the screen to laugh at them every time they missed shooting a duck. Upon witnessing this experience I realized I was a victim of classical conditioning. Every time I would see a shade of brown I found myself becoming angry because I associated the dog to failure, I associated a shade of brown as a note that failure was inevitably coming to me. Behavior was not tied to just Duck Hunt, it was continued through the skewed methods of returning games. Return polices were less sophisticated then. It wasn’t uncommon for gamers to buy a new game and sat they didn’t like it a week later. Polices allowed gamers to return games as long as they adhered to the same receipt. This meant the two ways for a gamer to stop the process of a “long term rent” was by losing the receipt, or canceling the policy. Gamers also figured out the ways of the rental stores as well because video games weren’t tracked on computers then. The rented game would be traded by peeling the label off of that game and replacing it with a game of lesser emotional sentiment. Friends at school would also “borrow” games to others only to never see them again. Time management of other activities wasn’t a key component back then. Time was spent on keeping the NES working, going to school only to talk about NES games, and staying home from school sick to play them. This became a monument of 3rd graders everywhere with the release of Super Mario Brothers. Game play was unlike anything ever seen before because of the amount of depth that was in the game. Students told each other rumors about hidden levels, jumping the flagpole at the end of the stage, and future ideas for the series.

Generalizations would also occur due to the amount of people in the world that weren’t exposed to the aspect to games itself. I wasn’t surprised to hear NES games labeled as “tapes.” How can a cartridge be a tape!? There are no moving parts, and it isn’t possible to rewind the cartridge. Those who didn’t grow up with a NES didn’t understand the effect of the system had on those that experienced it early. It will never be possible to recreate that experience for others either. From what I have noticed I was always yelled at for pursuing my interests. However, I never regret what I did back them because that would mean I would have lost part of the outlook I have on life now.

Personal attitudes of gamers everywhere are not different from other people. Gamers could think about studying, or bathing, but they would say it was all worth the sacrifice just to play that one video game. Gaming on the NES is still addictive as it ever was. Whether the gaming is used casually or religiously only means one thing, creativity is involved in gaming so it is best to let that creativity out.

I have found this field observation to be very worth while because I have been able to find attributes in myself that I thought were unique to me. This experience has opened my eyes to understand why gaming is important. When ideas are fresh and innovative those interested wants to understand what the hype is all about.

Kettering Alumni Proudly Salutes Kettering Elite! (3-8)

I take great pride in knowing that the future bright minds of America are still taking action and working after the results (undoubtedly will be shown.) Alexandra be proud and confident in your actions even if your ultimate dream doesn't come true within a few weeks. With actions like yours, the dreams and values that you hold true to yourself will show up and surprise you when you least suspect it.

Alexandra, with that involvement you have stated a legitimate point by action, many people can say what they will do, but only some pursue it, and very few achieve it. Kettering, I am not surprised you have influential students pass through your halls, continue your work to aid more creativity out of the minds that stave for it.

The world is listening... and on March 26 lets show our support!

Global Trade Mission Results? (3-7)

I was wondering if the Ross and Briercheck CO. were in attendance of this event. Was any of the agenda eventful? What could be done to make the results any better? What were the highlights of the program?

John:

The World is Flat was the theme............and they certainly proved it. Obviously they hadn't read the book yet.

Updates.... And New Material (3-5)

Everything for the argumentative Paper is progressing well, and it seems as though the stress journal documentation for another class will be starting soon. I wanted to wait to make sure I had legitimate queries about stress before I went out on a tangent and debated nothing.

So thanks to all of you for all of your efforts so far... I have come very far from the lowly 10th grade boy you once knew.

P.S. Here is something to look at...
(The events may be a bit out of order do to length constraint. It may not double space the paragraphs either.)

Peak Experience: “Select Fifty Secret”
When it is a high school student’s last year it should be filled with great joy and surprise. Though it may seem like the year will never end, somehow as students we look back and wonder why we were so anxious to leave that place. Something special had occurred just before graduation, and the likelihood of it seemed surreal. That experience that took place was so extraordinary, I wasn’t sure what to feel.
Mass amounts of people were gathered at Waterford Kettering High School to celebrate recognition of those that were named “Select Fifty.” This consisted of two groups of twenty-five students from Waterford Kettering and Waterford Mott High School that received honors pertaining to their achievements both inside and outside the classroom. I wasn’t too nervous at the thought of being one of the groups to represent the school, but I did more then question myself at the thought the values of my achievements during my high school experience. What could I be recognized for? I’m really just another student who just does his job at school and then relaxes at home.

As I looked back for merits to accompany this honor I discovered I had become the first representative from strictly Waterford Kettering, to intern at the McMath-Hulbert Solar Observatory. I remembered the field trips I helped compose with the work of my friends to get the autistic group from Waterford Kettering to take a field trip to the observatory. I also thought back on all of the Agrivisory Committee meetings I went to so the group could help bring video conferencing into the classroom, so it would be possible to pursue a collaborative effort in the school environment. After I thought back about how hard I had worked to get to where I am today, I had realized that this recognition is worth brandishing on a student like me.
Before all of the “Select Fifty” went into the gym, the individual students from the group had taken a picture with our friends and family, and with the principal of the respective school. When everyone from the group had finished with their pictures, we had pilled into the gym to commence the ceremony. I remembered I couldn’t sit still because I just wanted to get the ceremony over with. Right on cue, I had stepped up to receive an award for making the “Select Fifty” and took my seat. The bright lights and the suspense seemed non-existent but I had a feeling all of that was about to change somehow.

As the event grew to a close a final meeting that was labeled as an ordinary conference for parents and students about the upcoming graduation took place. The program held in the gym turned out a hidden honors presentation. Students were once again wondering what this could be as much as anyone was. This award given out was for “Senior of the Year.” This award was meant for anyone who had given it their all to be a valuable citizen in the global society. As this was a narrow field of about five I was amazed I was even chosen let alone picked to receive “Senior of the Year.” I couldn’t stop smiling and I don’t think I was even aware of what had just happened. The experience is similar to finding one of those Publisher’s Clearing House checks because it shows up all of the time, but do we ever expect to win?
If I want to receive more peak experiences I realized how to do so in that day. If I constantly give just enough effort to the point where I could best the best I could have more peak experiences. The point is to give it your all day in and day out without compromising the body, mind, and soul. While it is never easy to do so, it is essential to success.

John:

Congratulations! You have evolved to become an outstanding adult human being! We are very proud of you and your accomplishments. Understanding "true success" is no small feat. Much continued success, my friend! Additionally, here endeth the lesson............which also serves as a benchmark for the continuence of your personal journey and quest for a higher-ordered, fulfilling and meaningful life. You are to be treasured!

Best,

Jim
